Schenectady – Joseph Sheedy, 59, passed away at his home on Saturday March 9, 2024. Joe was well liked and affectionately called “the mayor”. He knew everyone in the neighborhood and was always ready to stop for a visit and chat. He was a friend to many, kind, giving and always ready to help a friend in need. Joe was a man of many talents. He had excellent culinary skills and worked many years in the restaurant business until his health prohibited it. He loved cooking for family gatherings and was especially known for his spectacular Christmas Eve buffets. He additionally was very skilled as an electrician and did work in that area when he could. He was also a lover of all animals and like his grandmother, Marion Sheedy, had a special fondness for cats. He will be missed by his cats, Fozzy, Cali and dogs Renny and Jake. Joe was predeceased by his father, James Sheedy and mother, Nicolina Stimpson. Joe is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Sheedy, his stepfather Rev. Peter Stimpson, three stepsons, CJ (Lisa) Lavery, Derek (Elizabeth Chua) Brady and Michael (Clare DiSanto) Brady and step grandchildren, Brigitte Lavery, Eddie, Nathan and Belen Brady. Additionally, he is survived by his four siblings, Michael, Sandra, Paul, James Sheedy and his many, beloved nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady on Friday March 15th.
